Taiwan 2026 – Kaohsiung, Taiwan
Listening, Gesture, Memory
Artistic Residency — Kaohsiung, Taiwan 2026

I’ll be spending three months in Kaohsiung, Taiwan (February–May 2026), listening to how life within and around one of the world’s largest container ports resonates across day and night.
Early morning fish markets, cranes loading ships at dawn, voices calling across docks, machinery humming through the night, and the textured silences holding it all together — I’m interested in what sustained attention reveals in these everyday sounds we usually ignore.
Using simple tools (smartphone, small microphone, analog synthesizers), I’ll capture and transform this material into electroacoustic compositions. Not documentary. Not illustration. Something closer to an invitation: what happens when we actually listen?
During the residency:
- Field recording sessions across port zones, markets, stations
- 10-15 compositions (shared progressively on SoundCloud)
- 2 participatory workshops with local community
- 1 public performance at Pier-2 Art Center
- Essays on Substack exploring the process
This residency is hosted by PAIR (Pier Artist in Residence) at Kaohsiung,
I’ll update this page as the project unfolds. If you’d like to follow along or connect, you can subscribe to my Substack or reach me directly.
