I am a sound artist and researcher working with listening, gesture, and memory through sound practice.

Drawing from decades of Chinese and Japanese martial arts (Shaolin, Xingyiquan, Judo, Iaido) and musical education (piano, classical percussion, jazz drums, machines, computer-assisted music), my work explores how sound reveals what analysis alone cannot reach.

I don’t produce sounds to hear — I produce situations to perceive.

These research-creation sessions are based on long-term practice across working ports internationally (Taiwan, Japan, Malaysia, Naples, Thessaloniki) and ongoing residency at PAIR Residency, Pier-2 Art Center, Kaohsiung, Taiwan (2026). Using analog instruments and dedicated software (Ableton Live, IRCAM tools), the sessions create conditions where listening becomes active inquiry, not passive reception.

SESSION I — Listening or Hearing?

The session begins with sound already present — no imposed silence, no preparation needed. Participants enter the space as it is: voices, movements, ambient noise flowing naturally.

Before framing the work together, a few questions open the terrain:

  • Listening or hearing — is there a difference?
  • Gesture and machine — how does the body attend to sound differently than an algorithm?
  • The encounter — what happens when we choose to inhabit sound rather than decode it?
  • Humanity and AI — is a machine better than us, and why not?

These questions aren’t answered here. They become the ground we’ll explore together over both sessions. What emerges from this first contact: observations on how attention shifts when we pause the habit of analyzing and simply inhabit sound as it unfolds.

There is no performance expected, no correct response to find, no technical skill required. This session doesn’t produce sounds to hear — it creates situations to perceive. The focus rests on perception, bodily attention, and how sound becomes experience before meaning.

After inhabiting these questions through direct experience, a brief conceptual framework will be offered — not as theory imposed from above, but as language to articulate what has already been lived. Theory here functions as a tool for naming, not a prerequisite for participating.

Moments of collective exchange punctuate the session. Participants are invited to share sensations and impressions as they arise, without need for justification or analysis. What is felt matters more than what can be explained.

This is an exploratory process, not an evaluation. Session I establishes the ground; Session II will deepen the inquiry through transformation, gesture, and creative engagement with listening practice.

SESSION 2 – Evolution: Transformation – Gesture, Repetition, Trace

Session 2 builds directly on Session 1 and is open only to those who participated in the first session.

This session focuses on the shift from listening to engaging with the materials participants have gathered. Drawing from my practice as a sound artist and researcher, the session explores gesture, repetition, and transformation as core elements of sound work.

Participants will work with the sound materials collected. These materials were already composition when gathered — the decision to record, the presence at that moment, the choice of what to capture. Now we return to them, not as fixed objects, but as living material that continues to transform.

The focus is on listening together to these materials, observing what has changed, and articulating transformations through collective inquiry and shared observation.

There is no performance requirement and no technical skill expected. What matters is attention to what the materials reveal when revisited.

At the close of Session 2, I will present a brief 10-minute performance — the continuation of what we’ve explored together. Not something created from the materials, but with them, as they continue to unfold. This is followed by a sharing about my creative practice and what sound and listening mean to me. This is my way of thanking you for your presence, which allows me to receive and be transformed.

Session 2 emphasizes repetition as a living process — sound changes through practice and sustained attention. The session opens toward autonomous creative practice, not toward finished results or evaluation.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

This is for anyone curious about sound and listening — whether you’re an artist, a student, someone who loves music, or simply someone who wonders what it means to truly listen.

These sessions don’t teach sound — they create conditions where perception opens. If you’re willing to experience before understanding, to feel before explaining, you’re ready.

You don’t need experience, technical skills, or a background in music. What matters is genuine curiosity and willingness to explore together.

Questions and attention — that’s enough.
